When I first went gluten free, I was completely lost when it came to baking. Baking truly was my passionate until it quickly became frustrating as I tried to find gluten free baking substitutions because there were no great-tasting mixes or pre-made doughs to use at the time.
Usually my ‘experiments’ ended up in tears and lots of wasted time and money because those gluten free flours really get expensive!
After years of perfecting my own gluten free desserts, I’ve found the best baking substitutions especially if you’re baking for someone with Celiac Disease or specific food allergies. You can even use these recommendations if you just want to make a few healthier substitutions, too!
Whatever your reasons are, having a few tricks up your sleeve is never a bad idea. Here are some excellent baking substitutions you can try in your own kitchen. Unless otherwise noted use the same amount of the substitute as the ingredient you’re replacing.
As you do your own experiments in the kitchen, remember baking can sometimes be a very tricky operation and not all recipes will come out the exact same texture when you make certain substitutions.
You may need to practice and perfect your favorite recipes with these.
